The role and importance
The role and significance of the LOBIS for students of the University Vigo and University North is the implementation of education on the basic concepts of sustainability in food technology, biotechnology and nutrition, with tendency to modernize their preparation for the competitive EU labor market that requires experts educated on the basis of eco-efficiency. The strategy and vision of the LOBIS work includes the implementation of teaching through various modules on the sustainability of advanced food processing techniques, and the application of modules related to sustainability in food technology and industry is planned (if there is a logistical framework). Another potential course will encompass the study of the data analytics (e.g. chemometrics) for various nutritional purposes and the relationship between agri-food business, nutrient intake and public health. Here, various nutrients, their functions, metabolic utilization, processing and their nutritional interest in the field of food production will also be analyzed. With this discipline the student will develop the fundamental ability to analyze data, e.g. for nutritional requirements in a health condition at different stages of life, for their functions and metabolic use, knowing the bases of the energy and nutritional balance and their regulation etc. Potentially, classes can be conducted at both parties in Croatian and English and thus teaching will be provided to students from abroad and the region. Extensive international and domestic teaching experiences of future members of the LOBIS will significantly help in this. This will enable a better positioning of both University Vigo and University North through the internationalization of education, and new competitive directions of study.
The work of the Laboratory is primarily focused on providing support in mobility, application of development and research projects at the University Vigo and University North, future European, Croatian/Spanish national projects, where in the future it will be necessary to highlight the essential components of sustainability. The laboratory promotes sustainability through the application and implementation of international projects in cooperation with recognized experts and scientists from around the world, active student participation in scientific research activities of the LOBIS, and publication of results resulting from the research. The promotion of the LOBIS in public would also be achieved through the LOBIS website in Croatian, Spanish and English (with adequate linguistic support).
